How It Works

From our nursery to you

Step 01

Find a tree for your date

Search the Registry for a tree sown on a date that matters to you. If there is a match, you can view its record and buy that individual tree.

Step 02

Or choose a day still to come

Ask us to sow a seed for a future wedding, birth or other occasion. We’ll discuss your date and tree options, and confirm the details before you decide.

Step 03

A gift to give

Your tree arrives carefully packaged, with its engraved plaque and Certificate of Origin. If it needs more time in the nursery, a personalised gift certificate can be arranged for the agreed occasion.

Step 04

Plant it in its new home

Once the tree is established and ready for delivery, you plant it in its chosen home. Its Origin Date and species remain recorded in the Arbora Registry.

PRIVATE COMMISSIONS · £195

From your wedding day to your first anniversary.

Commission a tree to be sown on your wedding day. We will nurture it through its first year, ready to be delivered on your first anniversary—a living symbol of a marriage growing from the very same date. We keep commissions limited so each tree receives individual care in our Wiltshire nursery.

Commission a Tree
The years that follow

Imagine it is 2054.

Joshua is 28.

His oak is now more than six metres tall and still growing.

Every year, the family gathers beneath it to celebrate his birthday. As candles are blown out and new photographs are taken, the tree marks another year of family life.

Joshua's own children race towards the swing hanging from one of the tree's strongest limbs. They climb its branches, play beneath its canopy and know it simply as Daddy's tree.

They give little thought to the years ahead. They are too busy enjoying the moment.

But one day, they may return with children of their own.

They may tell them how the tree was planted on the exact day their father was born.

They may show them its place in the Arbora Registry and the first photographs taken when it was still only a sapling.

Another generation may one day gather beneath the same branches, adding their own celebrations to the family tradition.

Some gifts are opened once. Others become part of a family's story forever.

MOMENTS

The moments that shape a life

Some dates pass. Others become part of your story. An Arbora tree gives you something living to mark those moments—a reminder of who, and what, made them matter.

Weddings

A gift for the life they’re building together. Commission a tree to be sown on their wedding day, or find one that shares the date they said “I do”—and give them something they can watch grow through the years.

New Arrivals

One day, you’ll tell them about the day they were born. Imagine showing them a tree that began life that very same day. A small beginning, shared—and something to grow up alongside.

Christenings & Naming Days

When you’re asked to play a part in a child’s life, you want to give something that matters. A tree marks the day you gathered to celebrate them, with a story they can appreciate as they grow.

New Homes

The day you got the keys. The plans you made. The feeling of having somewhere to call your own. Plant a tree to remember where it all began, and let it become part of the home you make.

Graduations

You’ve seen the effort that went into this moment. Give them something that says “I’m proud of you”—a lasting reminder of what they’ve achieved as they work out what comes next.

Business

You remember when it was just an idea. Mark a launch, an anniversary or a milestone with a tree that recognises the work it took to get here—and the ambitions still ahead.

Milestones

A special birthday, a fresh start, a quiet achievement that means more than anyone knows. Some moments deserve to be marked simply because they matter to you. Give them a tree, and a story to keep.

Our Wiltshire nursery

Our home in Wiltshire.

Our nursery is near Lacock, a historic village in Wiltshire. This is where we sow our seeds and look after the young trees before they’re ready to come home to you.

The date might be your wedding day or the day your child was born. For us, it’s the start of a tree we’ll care for until it’s ready for you to take over.

The landscape

A little of the place around us.

There’s plenty to notice in Lacock: old stone cottages, the village stream and the trees around the Abbey. We wanted to share some of it with you, so you can get to know the area where your tree is growing.

The streets still follow their medieval layout. The Abbey dates back to 1232, while places like the Red Lion are part of village life today.1

Back at the nursery

Your tree starts here.

We record the day each seed is sown. That’s its Origin Date, and it stays with the tree long after it leaves our nursery.

If your special day has already happened, you can look for a growing tree that shares it. If it’s still to come, you can ask us to sow a seed on that day. Either way, we’ll look after your tree here and help you plan for its arrival.

These photographs are of Lacock, not our nursery, which is nearby. Arbora is independent of Lacock Abbey, the National Trust and the businesses pictured. Read more about the area: Lacock Abbey history, exploring the village (National Trust).

Questions, answered.

What is Arbora?

We grow British trees from seed, each connected to the exact day it was sown. You can choose an existing tree for a past date or ask us to sow one for a future occasion. Each tree has its own record in the Arbora Registry.

What is an Origin Date?

It is the exact day the seed was sown. Germination may happen later; the Origin Date always stays the same.

What makes an Arbora tree meaningful?

An Arbora tree is connected to a specific day and grows alongside the person, relationship or occasion that day celebrates.

What does the Registry record?

Each tree has a unique Registry number and a record of its Origin Date, species and provenance, so its connection to your date can always be traced.

How is Arbora different from other gift-tree companies?

You can buy a standard gift tree elsewhere, but an Arbora tree begins with a particular date. We sow only a limited number of Registry trees each day, so trees sharing an Origin Date are genuinely scarce. Private Commissions are sown on an agreed future date and grown specifically for the customer. Every Arbora tree is grown from seed and cared for in our own nursery—we do not buy in saplings from other suppliers.

How many trees share each Origin Date?

We sow a small number of Registry trees each day. Availability is limited and varies by date.

Can I find a tree with my child’s actual birth date?

Search the Registry Collection using their birth date to see which trees share it. Each has been growing from a seed sown on that very day. Availability is limited and varies by date.

What happens if my date is unavailable?

You could try another date that means something to you, or ask us about a Private Commission for an upcoming anniversary, birthday or other special occasion. We’re happy to help you find the right fit.

What space will the recipient need?

A tree’s mature size, soil and setting matter. Ask Arbora about the species and the recipient’s intended planting space before choosing; not every tree suits a small garden or container.

Will my tree be delivered to me?

Yes. This is a tree to welcome into your own garden or another special place, rather than a woodland planting gift. We care for it in our nursery, then arrange delivery to you or your recipient, with a guide to help it settle into its new home.
